Pinkies aren't a good idea as they can cause blockages
Their digestive systems aren't good enough.

How old/big is it?

Fairly big. img145.imageshack.us/img145/6599/izzard.jpg

Then I'd stick to the crickets, locusts, mealworms and waxworms
This site is pretty similar to the one we use at work as guidance on what's best to feed them, vegetation wise

Wow what a great list
And it also says that you can feed them things that are toxic/pointless foodstuffs.
(, Wed 11 Nov 2009, 23:16, Reply)
It's pretty comprehensive, similar in parts to the toxic foodstuffs handout I used to use for puppy school!

Well maybe a couple a week is a bit high
The main problem with too much protein is tat it can seriously screw up they're liver function.

They should have a diet of 90% veg and 10% protein.

And this comes from somebody who has bred beardies, and other reptile.

So what you're saying
Is that I can't kill people to feed to him?

Well this is just fucking marvellous.
(, Wed 11 Nov 2009, 23:08, Reply)
Yup
Just in small pieces.

If you wanted something to eat that much meat, you should have got one of the monitor lizards, or a pig. :)

Or a stinky stinky ferret ,)

(, Wed 11 Nov 2009, 23:11, Reply)
Hey ferrets aren't stinky.
And mine wouldn't hurt a fly. They may eat the occasional passing fox though.

Coughbullshitcough
They REEK. I've met some very sweet lovely ones and some utter shits in the last few months and while I like them well enough, I could never own one. Gorgeous polecat in last week to be castrated, the smell lingered for hours after he'd left.

I know you have Dok, I was just pointing out that if Miraclefish is an inexperienced beardie owner, then feeding pinkies could be a bad plan because he might feed too much or ones that are too big

(, Wed 11 Nov 2009, 23:08, Reply)
Nah it's all good
First beardie but it's an addition to the snakes, scorpions and tarantula. I've pretty much got every kinda weird food around here.

And pinkies are okay occasionally but not very often. Izzard is of an age where it's about 10-20% live food and the rest is mixed fruits and vegetables.

It's like having a pet that's 50% stone and 50% rabbit - eats lettuce and does fuck all...
(, Wed 11 Nov 2009, 23:12, Reply)
Yeah, I remember seeing pics of some of them :)
We get quite a few in at work with various different problems, so I'd never recommend pinkies as part of the regular diet if they'll happily get along on insects.

I miss the gecko we had for a couple of months, he was awesome

Edit: Also

I like having pets
Which might well be able to fly/lay eggs in your brain/survive a nuclear holocaust...
(, Wed 11 Nov 2009, 23:24, Reply)
I don't recall you having cockroaches, but hey, whatever floats your boat ,)

(, Wed 11 Nov 2009, 23:32, Reply)
Good point.
