Surely if you want to show your commitment to someone but don't believe in the religeous ceremony of marriage.Then a civil partnership is ideal.

A civil marriage is not a religious ceremonyA civil partnership (for homosexuals) and a civil marriage (for heterosexuals) are legally the same. It's just a different name.
