Them Crooked Vultures
Got the album yesterday and have listened to it twice today.

I think it is fucking brilliant. Kind of like a cross between Queens of the Stone Age and Cream.

Get it in your life.

With a bit of...
...Foo Fighters and Led Zep thrown in.

I was expecting greatness
my first delve via youtube was inconclusive. Thorough listening reveals that it is incredibly good. Doesn't let up for the whole album.
(, Wed 25 Nov 2009, 16:03, Reply)
YAY!
I saw an ad on the telly for it and thought the snippet I heard was rather Foos/Zep/QOTSA... this makes for a good album! :D

it has more than made up for my mild disappointment regarding the Wolfmother album

Got it in my life and on my I-pod

only had a chance to flick through so far though
(, Wed 25 Nov 2009, 16:01, Reply)
I am old
Of the bands mentioned I only like Cream and Zeppelin. Dave Grohl seems like a really sound bloke who genuinely loves music, but the sheer volume of his output means inevitable dips in quality.

And I'm such a tool I've always been suspicious of QOTSA becaue the chap has short, ginger hair. My brother swears by them, but then he loves Rammstein and is therefore 'mutton jeff'.
(, Wed 25 Nov 2009, 16:18, Reply)
Dave Grohl is drummer on this stuff
and a very good one he is too.

I've only recently got into QOTSA, they can be a bit hit and miss. Them Crooked Vultures takes the good elements and mixes them with some pounding drums and bass, and some nice freakouts.
(, Wed 25 Nov 2009, 16:19, Reply)
the Probot tune with Lemmy was good, I thought
However it was effectively a straight up Motorhead tune, so I was bound to like it.
(, Wed 25 Nov 2009, 16:26, Reply)
oh yes
blaring this out in the office as we speak.

Massive QOTSA fan, so pretty much anything Homme puts out will at least get a listen here.

Bloody marvellous
(, Wed 25 Nov 2009, 16:26, Reply)
Ah yes - that's the other stumbling block I have with them
1. 'short hair'
2. 'ginger hair'
and of course 3. 'called Homme'
(, Wed 25 Nov 2009, 16:28, Reply)
that is unfortunate
as they are a good band. As are Kyuss, the band he was in before. And Them Crooked Vultures are also especially awesome.
(, Wed 25 Nov 2009, 16:31, Reply)
oh man, Josh Homme, he's so hot
super sexy, great voice, plays guitar
I want to lick his ball sweat
(, Wed 25 Nov 2009, 16:40, Reply)
that's delightful

(, Wed 25 Nov 2009, 16:44, Reply)
every_fucking_thing I say is delightful
dull, yes, but delightful all the same
(, Wed 25 Nov 2009, 16:46, Reply)
Ewwwww
No no no no no.
(, Wed 25 Nov 2009, 16:46, Reply)
look, you can keep Jordan Knight, okay?

(, Wed 25 Nov 2009, 16:54, Reply)
Don't wanna
*shuffles feet*

I'm keeping Dave Grohl and I'm going to give him a haircut and get rid of his dodgy tash... AND THERE'S NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT! Mwahahahahaha
(, Wed 25 Nov 2009, 16:56, Reply)
The Times Culture Magazine gave them 5 out of 5 stars
Are they anything like the foo fighters? The foo fighters good songs are brilliant, but they have done so much average stuff (and way too many ballads).
(, Wed 25 Nov 2009, 16:29, Reply)
way better than Foo Fighters
as they have gone too poppy. This stuff is weird enough not to have mainstream appeal
(, Wed 25 Nov 2009, 16:29, Reply)
i'll give them a listen then
as soon as my mate torrents it (as he torrents EVERYTHING)
(, Wed 25 Nov 2009, 16:31, Reply)
If you like the good stuff from the foos you might want to give
Jackson United a whirl. They're pretty cool, not heavy, not poppy... somewhere in the middle - I would class them as feelin' groovy summer music! :D

EDIT: The Exit are also a wicked band and quite Foosy... Pressure Cooker is a great song! :D
(, Wed 25 Nov 2009, 16:42, Reply)
Ooh
that's a good description of the Foos...
(, Wed 25 Nov 2009, 17:02, Reply)
QOTSA are brilliant

Saw them at Brixton Academy a couple of years ago and they rocked it!
(, Wed 25 Nov 2009, 16:39, Reply)
strangely, when I saw them at Roskilde in 2001/2/3 (??)
they sucked. But that may have been because I was so high, and stood at the back and to the side of about 60k people. I went to see Massive Attack instead. They were amazing
(, Wed 25 Nov 2009, 16:41, Reply)
I have heard that QOTSA
are a difficult band to watch live... they're either jaw-dropping amazing or completely drugged up and shit...
(, Wed 25 Nov 2009, 16:44, Reply)
that sounds like my band
apart from the jaw-dropping amazing bit
(, Wed 25 Nov 2009, 16:46, Reply)
Hahaha
bless
(, Wed 25 Nov 2009, 16:46, Reply)
if you look up 'drugged up and shit'
in the dictionary, you'll see a picture of my old band Electric Head Funk. We defined shitness for a generation.
(, Wed 25 Nov 2009, 16:49, Reply)
I've heard Vipros is the same
EDIT: SPOOOKY

You put him up to it, evils

(, Wed 25 Nov 2009, 16:48, Reply)
Nah
I did nothing. I think he just responded because he's all drugged up and stuff!
(, Wed 25 Nov 2009, 16:51, Reply)

I've been out in the fresh air most of the day
walking along rivers and such. very nice indeed, especially as the rain stayed away for most of the time.

Soooooo,
it has the Vipros seal of approval.

I think I'll pick up a copy tomorrow (no work for me - YAY!) and if it's shit I'll bite his tits off!
(, Wed 25 Nov 2009, 16:52, Reply)
sounds fair
It might not be to everyone's tastes admittedly, but I think it is fucking brilliant
(, Wed 25 Nov 2009, 16:55, Reply)
And on that basis I shall be purchasing
I may have trouble with the tit-biting though. I have contacts who could help with that (was it you that played at the Half-Moon?)
(, Wed 25 Nov 2009, 17:11, Reply)
nope

Madam, your carriage awaits.

I think that was late 90s
