We don't get proper snow in Hull anymore
It may get about 2 inches thick providing it's overnight, then it turns to rain and then melts again. and yet some schools will shut.

It's the teachers who take a snow day and the school shuts. In 1987 there was quite a heavy snowfall in Hull, yet the teachers couldn't claim they couldn't get into school because the headteacher used to drive all the way from some small village in Nottinghamshire, which was a good 90 miles each way (though god knows why)

I remember that on in 1987
The school mum worked at shut (Northcott Special School) on Bransholme, but she still made me and my brother go to school. It was our first year in senior school.

Ah.....nostalgic memories.
