evening
I want to steal acquire some films in a perfectly legal way but I can't think what to get.

I would be most grateful for your recommendations of fairly recent films in the comedy, action or sci-fi genres.

NEAR THE TOP.
I don't think we'll lose tomorrow. After all we've got Ian 'impossible to dislodge when he's under pressure' Bell to come in next.
(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 17:42, Reply)
Ha, do you think it says something about the average b3tan if we both recommended zombie films?

(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 17:10, Reply)
BRAAAAAAAINS

(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 17:11, Reply)
good suggestions
because I love zombie films. Saw zombieland the other day though :-)
(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 17:12, Reply)
Død snø
Or Dead snow if you want an easier way of finding it. Zombie nazi's munching on medical students on a mountain in Germany. What's not to love? I've been watching it on the tube this week and finished it this afternoon, moved onto Wall-E now and it's great so far.
(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 17:09, Reply)
Ooooooh
A friend of mine lent me the DVD. It's sitting at home unwatched, gathering dust.

Must watch soon.
(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 17:10, Reply)
both good choices
Dead Snow sounds like exactly my sort of film. Fairly sure it is already on my dwindling lovefilm list though, so I'll leave it until it arrives

Wall-E is a good idea though, ta

edit: excellent. should have wall-e in just over half an hour
(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 17:11, Reply)
Get both, I insist

(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 17:29, Reply)
I will watch dead snow when it arrives from lovefilm
easier to get the mrs to watch it that way
(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 17:33, Reply)
Oh look ! a "film" student recomending something with letters in that arn't in the british alphabet. now THERE is a big supprise.

(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 17:21, Reply)
how about a foreign language film
I always recommend that people watch Le Placard (The Closet). Very funny French film. Am a code monkey - not a film student though
(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 17:24, Reply)
I thought star trek was english, I know picard was french, but the show was always written in english, wouldn't it be better to watch it in that?

(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 17:26, Reply)
Fuck you Gonz, I'm a film graduate
weeps for the amount she owes to the student loans company for a pointless degree
(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 17:28, Reply)
Gutted, every film you'll ever watch will be ruined with "Oh man, I reckon that fade-to-black should have lasted an extra 120ms".
Did you get to study modern films when you were a student? You know, the films of your hay-day, like Nosferatu.
(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 17:37, Reply)
Oddly yes. The first film we ever watched was Empire strikes back.

(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 17:40, Reply)
Oh my, I wasn't even born.
=S

I didn't realise you were _that_ much older than me.
(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 17:42, Reply)
Sure you did, you can't help being young and silly

(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 17:56, Reply)
I don't like how you've turned this one around, if i'm going to be honest.

(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 18:08, Reply)
I don't like how you started this if I'm going to be honest

(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 18:10, Reply)
I don't even know why I did if I'm going to be honest.

(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 18:18, Reply)
I did a pointless degree too
All the cool people do.
Who actually wants something that helps you get a job anyway?
Erm, me actually...
(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 17:37, Reply)
Do they have to be recent?

(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 17:14, Reply)
not necessarily

(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 17:14, Reply)
Get on the 80s comedies then

(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 17:14, Reply)
I think I've watched all the ones worth watching

(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 17:16, Reply)
Oh, then I can't help you
I have terrible and outdated taste.
Unless you like musicals or Elvis films.
(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 17:21, Reply)
I like neither
thanks anyway :-)
(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 17:25, Reply)
Don't bother with the new Fantastic Mr Fox
It attempts comedy, but really isn't all that good.
(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 17:19, Reply)
I hear that they've changed the story or somesuch
the fucking idiots. that's my favourite roald dahl book, and they've cocked around with it...
(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 17:20, Reply)
It's still kind of the same
But definitely changed quite a lot in places, especially towards the end I think. We took friend's kids to see it, and they enjoyed it though.
(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 17:27, Reply)
Bugger, I was looking forward to seeing that

(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 17:30, Reply)
Maybe watch it at some point
I wouldn't particularly rush though. And however they animated (or whatever they did to it) his fur near the start made my head confused.
(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 17:45, Reply)
(For what it is worth I liked it.)

(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 19:11, Reply)
Coraline
good place to start, just make sure you are getting the 720p versions, anything else will look gash on your new telly.
(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 17:22, Reply)
Tim Birton's "9"
Adam Sandler's "Reign Over Me"
"London" with Jason Sterfham.
(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 17:27, Reply)
9 looks good
I'll get that too cheers
(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 17:35, Reply)

Rec - subbed zombie film. Very good.
District 9 - alien's land in Jo'burg. Very good.
Vampire Hunter D (Bloodlust) - Sci-fi/fantasy anime. Very good
(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 17:47, Reply)
Fired Up!
or Ondskan
or The Ugly Truth
I just don't know, okay? Gosh, it's not like you'll watch what everyone says you should anyway
(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 18:01, Reply)
Red Cliff?

(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 18:08, Reply)
Black Dynamite

(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 19:06, Reply)
Comedy/stoner flick...
Pineapple Express. 90 minutes of peurile giggling can be very cathartic. As your attorney I recommend it with some skunk, some DMT and maybe a rum and coke when you get thirsty.

For sci-fi search out the early 90s mini series Wild Palms for a Lynch-like set of surrealism, and the lovely Dana Delany is hot back in the day. For this I suggest mushrooms or failing that some 'coco' and a few bottles of Hobgoblin. (I know you said recent but I watched this again the other night and it is fresh in my mind)
(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 19:10, Reply)
been mean to watch Pineapple express for a while
I'll get Black Dynamite too, as that looks amusing
(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 19:24, Reply)
*Shouts*
"Don't forget the skunk/dmt/rum n coke"
(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 19:26, Reply)
skunk is ever present
I'm more of a vodka and orange man than rum and coke
