I remember reading in the Metro on the train home once that this woman borrowed £500 off a bloke so she could buy her daughter a laptop for Christmas. She only wanted £300 but he insisted on £500 because it was "a nice round number".
She ended up paying back 88k! And the funniest thing of all was that she had to sell the laptop she bought to be able to make a repayment. I must have looked like an idiot because I was in tears reading the article. There must have been a point where she went "right, I borrowed five hundred quid, which I didn't even want in the first place, and I've paid back about seventy grand now. This has to fucking stop". But no, carry on with the payments she did.
People are idiots.
