Because a lot of these flash-in-the-pan bands
e.g., The Strokes had/have a gimmicky sound that grabs people's attention for their first album. By the time they have to knock out a follow-up, it suddenly becomes apparent what a bunch of one-trick ponies they are when the second album sounds like a crap 'B'-side to the first one.

Didn't seem to stop Oasis, mind. Has their sound changed at all in the last fifteen/twenty years?

Also applies to Kaiser Chiefs
1st album was ok, the rest where shit.

The rest?
How many have they cracked out now?

(So is the first one worth having?)

3 I think
And the 1st is actually pretty damn good.

I may have a spare copy. I'll check when I get home (in about 20minutes) and if I have then I'll gaz you and you can have it.

Actually, I'm pretty sure my dad claimed it. I do have a spare copy of Alice In Chains (Dirt) free to a good home.

not fair re: The Strokes
they have produced three very good albums.
(, Fri 29 Jan 2010, 15:47, Reply)
I cite the Strokes just as an example
but there are far worse offenders. Is This It, to be fair, sounded different to everything around it at the time, and admittedly I didn't hear the whole of the second one but dismissed it when the singles from it sounded just the same as the middling tracks on the first one.

and the third one is fantastic
First Impressions of Earth - far more expansive - live they are superb.

The strokes
have no good albums

and I will happily flay the guy from that band who did the bloody christmas song which was overplayed on 6 music in december
