Often...
The first album is a (young) lifetime of experience, naive and shows a desire to be heard.

The second is usually done in six months and is about how difficult life on the road is, drug stories and why they want to incorporate the 'dance element' that was always under the surface or use a string quartet to 'add depth'. Also - the record company will be telling them how to 'shift units' and offering 'advice' on how to sound more commercial which will of course dilute the art and charm that made them popular on the first.

Not all bands of course, but quite a lot.

Most bands only have one decent LP in them
Some only one song.

Some not even that.

you're a records half-empty kind of dude, Monty
I can tell that about you but I'll tell you I'm a lot happier with this thread now that you've done your bowie meme. I think I'll go post "Monty - Bowie" in the favourite meme thread.

right, I've done that now.

I'm obliged to do it now aren't I?
I've rather made a rod for my own back with old Davey boy.

and the tragedy of course is you will merely reinforce the love that already exists between
Mr Jones and his fans of a certain age who will upgrade their vinyl with CD's and paid-for downloads and you will be directly responsible for swelling his coffers.

What have I done?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

in order to impoverish Mr Bowie,
I advocate a blanket ban on nostalgia starting.....

NOW!

Not ALL nostalgia, surely?
How am I going to crap on about Tractor and the free festival network of the 80s under such constriction?

You've not thought this through, old chap.

...or have you....?
