I've actually been there.
I waited at Morpeth train station at 7am for 4 hours for a (late) train to Edinburgh once. Yeah, they have no cafe or vending machines cos it was such a tiny village shit-hole. Had to buy a bacon sandwich on the train. It cost £4.50 and they fucking microwaved it.

I was fucking livid.
Went a bit mental at them to be honest.

Early Morning + Lack of Food + Rip off train merchants + a grumpy girkfriend who decided to berate me as it was CLEARLY my fault

= A very angry Colonel ricocheting around the food carriage shaking an empty wallet at the frankly terrified train staff.

Was lucky not to have been thrown off at the following stop but it was the last straw.

Could have been worse
You could have been waiting at Ashington. Passenger trains stopped running from there in the 1960's.
