Johnny Cash is awesome
So why the fuck don't I own any of his fine musical stylings?!

Is there a best of? Or any recommendations from anyone?

I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die

American IV
The one with 'Hurt' on. Awesome. He sounds as rough as fuck, but still brilliant.

And that should cover it and all for less than £22.

I may disgrace myself here
but I'd watch Walk The Line too. It's a good movie and while it might push the creative licence thing it's entertaining and gives a good overview of his life.

Walk The Line
is a terrible film which makes his really interesting life seem like a puke-fest love story. Go buy an autobiography and look forward to the bit where he has an epiphany whilst living in a cave whacked off his tits on goof balls.

Told you.
Ok, I've got the horn for Reese Withaknife.

Watch
"Five Minutes To Live" 1961. A movie where J. Cash plays a bad guy & strums the guitar a little. Worst acting ever.

Also has 6 year old Ron Howard (now director) in it. He should have given Cash acting lessons.

This in no way reflects on his musical talents.

Ron Howard was Richie Cunningham in Happy Days
never mind his appalling career as a director of schlock.

Actually...
If you're going to get the American Recordings albums, IV is very much overrated. The best of the series are I and III. The latest, VI, isn't very good. Definites are also the Sun recordings, Folsom Prison and if you can get it, the episode of Little House on the Prairie that he starred in is possibly the most heartwarming thing you will ever see.
