Woo, through one of my local newspapers I won tickets to see STOMP! tonight
This makes me very happy indeed.
Also, the Orange County Fair is coming up and there's some good bands playing - ZZ Top will be awesome.

What concerts have you seen/going to see this year?

Edit: Just checked with the boyfriend - we also have Leighann Rimes, Sammy Hagar and Joan Jett lined up. Yay!

I might be going to Reading for Friday

Guns and Roses and Queens of the Stone Age FTW.

I am quite prepared to be dissapointed by GNR

Last time I saw them they were pretty good,
but it was the only time I've seen them..
(, Tue 13 Apr 2010, 18:04, Reply)
disappointingly QOTSA were awful when I saw them

(, Tue 13 Apr 2010, 18:31, Reply)
none
but I am increasingly convinced that I should try and get to a festival at least. Not sure which one.
(, Tue 13 Apr 2010, 18:01, Reply)
I thought of going to Coachella this weekend,
but then it's a 2 1/2 hour drive and a really shitty place. I'll leave it to the young 'uns.
(, Tue 13 Apr 2010, 18:03, Reply)
Sonisphere
naturally. It's where all the cool, and the not-so-cool kids are at
(, Tue 13 Apr 2010, 18:03, Reply)
tempting
I don't think I'd convince my friends along to that, though
(, Tue 13 Apr 2010, 18:10, Reply)
There's some good stuff
and you don't need a massive group of friends to go, just a couple. Or go it alone
(, Tue 13 Apr 2010, 18:13, Reply)
Don't do Reading as a first festival.
It totally broke me.
(, Tue 13 Apr 2010, 18:10, Reply)
I've done Glastonbury
a few times, but I'm much older now

also it clashes with LARP events every year
(, Tue 13 Apr 2010, 18:11, Reply)
I've been invited to a LARP event in Derby I think.
As proud as I am of my geek credentials, I think that's just one step too far for me.
(, Tue 13 Apr 2010, 18:14, Reply)
yes!
that's one of the ones I go to! which faction?

do it do it do it
(, Tue 13 Apr 2010, 18:14, Reply)
Someone invited my friend and she asked if I'd come
so I'm not entirely sure. If she ends up going I'll gaz you and you can hook up. She's completely wonderful and mad enough to fit right in, I reckon.
(, Tue 13 Apr 2010, 18:19, Reply)
there is a certain mindset to dealing with larp
providing she's not in a faction we're at war with, I will say hello. Also, probably try and convert her to the cult of Sekhmet
(, Tue 13 Apr 2010, 18:21, Reply)
I'll let that be a surprise.

The guy from Pineapple Studio called it "extreme cross country pantomime" the other day, which made me laugh.
I should point out that I only watched Pineapple Studio to reaffirm that my hetrosexuality can take such an onslaught of poofery and remain intact.

Just to balance things though, I watched a football game afterwards, drank some stella and beat up someone for supporting another team.
(, Tue 13 Apr 2010, 18:56, Reply)
ah!
that's what we call it. I've not seen this pineapple studios, thing, how come larp is on it?
(, Tue 13 Apr 2010, 19:06, Reply)
I wasn't really paying that much attention, but I think it was that they were going to employe some LARP guy in order to teach how to dance with sticks/weapons, for theater.
I'm open minded by it, I think I _could_ really enjoy it, if I could get into the books.
(, Tue 13 Apr 2010, 19:13, Reply)
books?
larpers always think they can do awesome things with sticks and weapons, usually we're just either overweight or lanky geeks who've read too much fantasy and thus expect to be able to fight straight away
(, Tue 13 Apr 2010, 19:15, Reply)
Yeah', like Tolken and stuff like that.
I'd feel that if I was going to such an event, I'd like to be clued up on known the differance between my night-elf and wood-elf.

I used to play Warhamer when I was a kid, so I won't be 100% thick about the whole thing, but I don't know enough about mythology to really interact with someone who does on the subject. Well, I would, and I'd be interested, it's just that I wouldn't be able to bring anything to the party.
(, Tue 13 Apr 2010, 19:23, Reply)
to be fair
we make it up as we go along and each system has its own mythology. I am sure there's something you'd bring to the party. Rum is popular
(, Tue 13 Apr 2010, 19:25, Reply)
none :(
there are no bands playing that I lovelovelove.
30 seconds to mars and john mayer will be near.
I saw john mayer in concert once, it was really good. It surprised me.
(, Tue 13 Apr 2010, 18:10, Reply)
I was supposed to go see Bon Jovi
last month, and the day of the concert I fell ill with a 104 fever, shivering, shakes and was sick in bed for a week. I was so pissed! Saying that, that's when you know I'm sick, when I give up a ticket for Bon Jovi!
(, Tue 13 Apr 2010, 18:13, Reply)
pfft because they're the shit
I wish they still looked like this
(, Tue 13 Apr 2010, 18:19, Reply)
They're really good live.
Especially when Daughtry was the support act. Me knickers were wet all night!
(, Tue 13 Apr 2010, 18:22, Reply)
*groan*
everyone has their own personal taste but I am just not into that stuff, nickelback daughtry bon jovi, it's cookie cutter rock pop crap.

Miley, on the other hand...
(, Tue 13 Apr 2010, 18:26, Reply)
You're a Justin Beiber fan!
Nickelback - nah, can't stand 'em. But Bon Jovi's stood the test of time!
(, Tue 13 Apr 2010, 18:28, Reply)
I'm telling you to fuck right off, along with justin beeber

(, Tue 13 Apr 2010, 18:31, Reply)
*backs away slowly*
If it helps, I'm a massive Zac Brown Band fan!

Within the past four months I've seen
Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip
Miike Snow
Bat for Lashes

Might go to Audio Bullys next week, and Plump DJs next month.
(, Tue 13 Apr 2010, 18:16, Reply)
Ha - I've known Lee from Plump DJs for a good 15 years.
We both started DJing around the same time. He lives just across the park from me, lovely chap he is.

Where are you going to see them? I'll be likely to be able to get you a guest pass .
(, Tue 13 Apr 2010, 18:18, Reply)
Sounds good.

There's me and two chums going if it all comes together.

ZZ Top will indeed be excellent.
I'm off to see The Stooges in early May to see Raw Power performed in its entirety with James Williamson out of retirement on guitar following the death of Ron Asheton last year. I saw them do Fun House in its entirety a few years ago and it was one of the best shows I've ever seen.

I also have tickets to Motorhead in November (35th Anniversary tour) and following a tip from Al I shall also be going to see the marvellous Gong in September. I'm also trying to get to see The Jim Jones Revue but the wanker isn't doing any London shows.

Lenny often comes over here
and he likes to frequent my local bar. I'm pretty much the only person who knows who he is, so usually leave him alone. Probably see him in there every couple of years and he's a really nice guy.
(, Tue 13 Apr 2010, 18:23, Reply)
When he first came in,
the bartender just told him "hey, there's an English girl" and we got talking. I had no idea who he was, apart from a nice enough chap.
He asked what I did for a living, so told him and then asked him what he did. He looked at me, his face lit up and he said "you really have no idea, do you?". Then he told me who he was so I went home and googled him.

I'd see Joan Jett
if she played in the UK
(, Tue 13 Apr 2010, 18:32, Reply)
Saw her last year with Blondie
(again, at the Fair) and Blondie was way better. Joan Jett's still good, though but the music drowned out her voice.
