I tried that in the bedrom (fnarr) and the wet patch went all bubbly.

In the kitchen it's gone all dusty and one bit has gone rusty
where the steel corner is rusting.

But that takes a few days to come out, so in the meantime it looks fine.

You can buy special paint for damp walls
special in that it costs twice as much

much like "one coat" paint often has to be applied twice.

Use rubberised waterstain covering paint.
Works like a dream for a few days. Even after that it isn't too bad.
