The airline must pay accomodation and expenses
By law.

You'd only be putting more time out of work, which might mean losing some money, but then you get paid hotels and food en Europe.

I thought they didn't have to pay if it was a natural disaster
I thought they only had to put you up if the delay was caused by them

That is the insurance
But the airline must make sure you have a place to stay and food until they can take you back home. It's a European law (you see, we are not all bad) so if you're in Europe or somewhere else but are coming back with a European airline they have to pay for all that.
