Did you see the programme about her on BBC4 a while ago?
She was amazing.

I'd never heard of her before
If Wikipedia is to be believed, she sounds like a remarkable woman.

Though admittedly I did originally read Roota's post as "Josephine Baker"...

And I agree
I often have to think hard before saying either of their names, just to make sure.

No I did not.
Some cunting developer has just illegally knocked down a listed building named after her near me though. She did good shit at our workhouse. When my nana was young, she knew an old lady who had lived there and had some sad tales.

Tenuous historical connection there
I farted on Florence Nightingale on Saturday.

She deserved it for being mean to Mary Seacole.

Yeah, we have a Florence Nightingale building that's now a hotel
And it's right in Toxteth.
They should rename it for Mary.

How did you fart on her?
(, Wed 5 May 2010, 13:35, Reply)
I sat on her tomb, and it just came out.

Is Toxteth better or worse tahn Croxteth?

I did notice a while back that google had street viewed all of Liverpool except Croxteth.

Better
I mean, Toxteth is where the riots were in the early 80s, but it's fine. It's a more multi-cultural and at times bohemian place. it's to the south of the city.
Croxteth is north-end and, I'm sorry to say, more hostile. You stick out a lot there if you're not white and in standard scally clothing. I've got mates from there who are lovely people, but most of them have 'escaped'. It can be quite unpleasant for the nice old people who can't get out of there or are attached to their homes.

Toxteth appears to be on the up. Despite the occasional bit of aggro that you'd get on any city estate.
I must add that Crockie is massive and I'm sure there are nice parts ;)

Is this the one that they paid nearly 5 million for
and are knocking it down to put in 16 parking spaces.over 300k a space!
(, Wed 5 May 2010, 14:17, Reply)
It's gone
Knocked down. There's an extension left but I bet that will be gone soon too.
Within days of aquiring it and agreeing to the order, they took all the cladding off and started dismantling it.
