Pedulum, best band in the world at the moment, are you sure?

(, Fri 28 May 2010, 14:32, 2 replies, latest was 16 years ago)
I'm not.

(, Fri 28 May 2010, 14:33, Reply)
I am 100% sure they are not.
Does that help?
(, Fri 28 May 2010, 14:57, Reply)
Absofuckinlutely
The new album is a work of goddamn genius. I challenge anyone with a passing interest in danceable music of any kind not to be impressed by it
(, Fri 28 May 2010, 14:34, Reply)
I accept that challenge.

(, Fri 28 May 2010, 14:34, Reply)
I'm actually intrigued, as most of your muscical heros I would assume are dead or
rocking back and forth in an asylum for drug addled rock stars
(, Fri 28 May 2010, 14:37, Reply)
Apart from Angus Young
Who was last seen peddling the same fucking riff that he has been for the last 35 years
(, Fri 28 May 2010, 14:39, Reply)
I have fucking loads of dance records.
Good ones, like this:

Once again, the common thread is MASSIVE DRUGS, I'm afraid.
(, Fri 28 May 2010, 14:41, Reply)
You see, it's so shit you need MASSIVE DRUGS just to enjoy it.

(, Fri 28 May 2010, 14:48, Reply)
Takes me back to less complicated times...

(, Fri 28 May 2010, 14:48, Reply)
I can imagine; I was a little young to fully enjoy it
I grew up with Brit-pop, luckily i wasn't tainted for life.
(, Fri 28 May 2010, 14:51, Reply)
Me too
Hence my deeply imbedded hatred of Oasis
(, Fri 28 May 2010, 14:57, Reply)
I was right in there.
It's the only time in my life I've been 'current' in my tastes
(, Fri 28 May 2010, 15:11, Reply)
Steady on
Last I heard, Terry Ollis was a school caretaker somewhere round Twickenham
(, Fri 28 May 2010, 14:41, Reply)
Good old Tel.
Del Dettmar lives in the middle of nowhere in Canada.
(, Fri 28 May 2010, 14:48, Reply)
There's a number of old guys still knocking around this campus
who occasionally get together as a band called the Pyramids of SNAFU. Nice fellers, if a little eccentric, and at least a couple of them corroborate stories about Ollis having played drums for them at one point.

Dettmar's an odd one. According to Wikipedia he actually spent most of his career as a roadie. And must be one of the few rockstars to go by the name of Derek...

MY KNOB.

Still is, ladies. *winks*
(, Fri 28 May 2010, 14:54, Reply)
I really hope you now have Whigfield in your youtube history
and next time you log on it suggests Cotton Eye Joe as a video you might like
(, Fri 28 May 2010, 14:59, Reply)
one album doesn't make the best band in the world at the moment.

(, Fri 28 May 2010, 14:35, Reply)
Granted
That's not the sole basis of my opinion. They were running Muse close for the title before it was released
(, Fri 28 May 2010, 14:36, Reply)
now I'm afraid
we definitely have to disagree. Muse don't even make it into the top twenty
(, Fri 28 May 2010, 14:38, Reply)
We were bound to disagree on something eventually
I'm sure we'll survive

*breathes deeply, tries not to panic*
(, Fri 28 May 2010, 14:39, Reply)
you were doing well until you mentioned Muse
there are few more self-satisfied bands out there.

they did some good stuff, but everything for the last few years has been exactly the same.
(, Fri 28 May 2010, 14:48, Reply)
I wouldn't say it's been the same, there has been progression from a more standard rock sound
to the space-prog-Queen-sound they have today. I prefer the old stuff.
(, Fri 28 May 2010, 14:49, Reply)
I like space-prog-rock
maybe not the same, but following the same formula. There are much better bands out there doing similar stuff without the recognition.
(, Fri 28 May 2010, 14:51, Reply)
There's this band, Hawk something....?

(, Fri 28 May 2010, 14:52, Reply)
-Eye, I believe, they play Apache Rock

(, Fri 28 May 2010, 14:53, Reply)
Nah - I don't think it's them I'm thinking of.

(, Fri 28 May 2010, 14:56, Reply)
What Hawkwind songs shall I listen to this afternoon?
As an education piece.
(, Fri 28 May 2010, 14:56, Reply)
"You Shouldn't Do That" from the first side of "In Search of Space"
Don't know whether you'll like that one, but at least it'll keep you busy for 20 minutes.
(, Fri 28 May 2010, 14:59, Reply)
Hurry on sundown.

(, Fri 28 May 2010, 15:06, Reply)
Good call, Porkles, very good call.
There's a 10 minute demo version on the Hawkwind Zoo EP that is even better than the released one, if you ask me.
(, Fri 28 May 2010, 15:26, Reply)
I've heard of it but never been lucky enough to hear it.
I've still got my original copy of Hawkwind. Bought when I was about 17 from a charity shop.
(, Fri 28 May 2010, 15:44, Reply)
Golden Void
Kings of Speed
Silver Machine
Orgone Accumulator
Kiss of the Velvet Whip
Assassins of Allah (Hassan I-Sahba)
(, Fri 28 May 2010, 15:09, Reply)
Or perhaps
The aubergine that ate Rangoon. I love that one.
(, Fri 28 May 2010, 15:45, Reply)
you going to watch Hawkwind play in a cave?

(, Fri 28 May 2010, 15:03, Reply)
Nah - too far to travel....
I think I'm in Cyprus anyway.
(, Fri 28 May 2010, 15:09, Reply)
shame
I could've been tempted
(, Fri 28 May 2010, 15:16, Reply)
Go anyway.
It'll be great.
(, Fri 28 May 2010, 15:25, Reply)
I too hanker for the "earlier stuff"
but I must take issue with you disliking a band for being self-satisfied
(, Fri 28 May 2010, 14:52, Reply)
I just get the impresison there is a certain amount of laurel-resting-on going on in the Muse camp
plus, I saw a recent documentary where they went back to their home town Teignmouth. They came across as complete wankers, and Teignmouth is a shithole full of cunts.
(, Fri 28 May 2010, 15:05, Reply)
They make it into the top twenty
bands that are really, really shit.
(, Fri 28 May 2010, 14:50, Reply)
it's alright
but they're hardly the best band in the world
(, Fri 28 May 2010, 14:35, Reply)
You see, you've already had to back track and downgrade from all music to just "dancable"
and as we all know dance music is the lowest common denominator when it comes to the quality of music.
(, Fri 28 May 2010, 14:36, Reply)
True
But there seems to be little point asking an ardent Sigur Ros fan to stop being chilled out for a minute and give this a listen
(, Fri 28 May 2010, 14:37, Reply)
I don't mind some "dance music", but the dross on the radio, fuck me

(, Fri 28 May 2010, 14:39, Reply)
I agree, on the whole
I'm already regretting the use of said phrase but trying to pigeonhole Pendulum off the back of this album is like trying to piss through a keyhole into a thimble, for reasons I'm yet to adequately explain even to myself
(, Fri 28 May 2010, 14:42, Reply)
Pendulum are poop
