he's a thief
and should go to gaol. But I still feel a bit sorry for him
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 11:48, 1 reply, 16 years ago)
why gaol rather than jail?

(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 11:49, Reply)
I prefer the spelling
plus it is the right one
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 11:52, Reply)
Archaic spelling, pronounced as jail.

(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 11:52, Reply)
hardly archaic
it was relatively well used into quite recently
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 11:54, Reply)
That's how they spell it in Tin Tin comics.

(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 11:55, Reply)
:D
and we should all follow TinTin's lead. Like Snowy does

"The ballad of Reading Gaol" by Randy Bumgardener

The spelling, not use, is archaic.
Naturally, I'm in favour of archaic objects.
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 12:01, Reply)
I know that
but was wondering why she chose that one.
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 11:57, Reply)
personal preference
and a thin patina of cuntishness
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 12:01, Reply)
I approve

How do we stand on the counterpane/bedspread debate?

(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 12:05, Reply)
either
depending on my mood. But counterpane is a mite too pretentious even for someone who has made a study of that particular character trait as I have
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 12:07, Reply)
Frock/dress?

(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 12:10, Reply)
I hate the word frock
it makes me think of pink frou-frou ugliness.
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 12:13, Reply)
and it rhymes with cock

(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 12:14, Reply)
I like words that rhyme with cock
Clock is my favourite.

And the first syllable of crocodile.
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 12:15, Reply)
Smock.

(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 12:16, Reply)
Schlock

All I've seen of Star Trek is that terrifying video Amberl showed me
of all the Ho Yay between Spock and Kirk set to "Closer"
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 12:18, Reply)
well I did warn you it was shocking
and one of the most bizarre things I've ever seen
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 12:19, Reply)
Ames and I got smashed on tequila a few days ago
and sung that very loudly. In Bermonsey.

Probably not smart.
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 12:22, Reply)
Were you thinking of Schlong? When don't you?

(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 12:22, Reply)
No, I wasn't >_<

(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 12:23, Reply)
But you are now, right?

(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 12:23, Reply)
Precisely.
Debutantes wore frocks, and the more restricting they looked the more fashionable they were judged. And of course they were expensive.
Kicking against this exclusivity begat Punk.
So although the word has the essence of a long passed era, I persist with its use. Possibly because it is such an ugly word.
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 12:20, Reply)
dress for me
frocks for small children
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 12:17, Reply)
it is a debate of which I have no knowledge
