So what do you all think of the Barefoot Bandit?
Some people think he's a scrotey little thief just like any other, some people are calling him Robin Hood.

I quite like him. He left a bunch of money (albeit stolen) at a vet's and asked them to spend it on the animals. Plus he mostly steals food and money for survival (except for the plane, that was probably a little unnecessary).

I think if you have the balls to steal a plane and fly it to the Bahamas then you deserve a little credit. Dude got skillz.

It was intentional
The Pope is infallible (not) and Larry is not in(fail)able. It was a very poor effort, but it was intentional

But loves a good Hamlet?
You're right, I can't help but think this god feller had a gay experience at university that went badly wrong, so now he acts like Michael Portillo or Peter Mandelson and pretends it never happened.
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 12:11, Reply)
wut?
Peter Mandelson?
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 12:20, Reply)
Based on my error of judgement above
I'm trying to work out whether you're being subtly sarcastic
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 12:22, Reply)
You didn't mention chorister-bumming,

Edit- so kind of you not to have pointed out the spelling error, now corrected.
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 12:09, Reply)
Has the Pope actually bummed any choristers himself?
Or does he just watch his henchmen furtively from behind the altar, furiously wanking into the scrunched-up margins of a prayer book?
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 12:15, Reply)
I think you have to bum a certain amount of choristers before you can become pope
it's like levelling up
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 12:16, Reply)
I'd be all "Hey, that's my plane or car!"

(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 11:48, Reply)
I did think that
especially since the plane was crash landed, so it was probably expensive. And I don't agree with people who say "well whoever's plane it was is obviously rich enough to afford it" because that's not fair. Also I hope to be that rich one day.

I'm torn between questioning what makes him different from any other scummy little thief who steals mobile phones and wallets, but sometimes I think that criminals who manage to escape in such spectacular ways as this deserve a little respect. He might have just been lucky, but he's still quite an impressive guy.
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 11:55, Reply)
he's a thief
and should go to gaol. But I still feel a bit sorry for him
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 11:48, Reply)
why gaol rather than jail?

(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 11:49, Reply)
I prefer the spelling
plus it is the right one
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 11:52, Reply)
Archaic spelling, pronounced as jail.

(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 11:52, Reply)
hardly archaic
it was relatively well used into quite recently
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 11:54, Reply)
That's how they spell it in Tin Tin comics.

How do we stand on the counterpane/bedspread debate?

(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 12:05, Reply)
either
depending on my mood. But counterpane is a mite too pretentious even for someone who has made a study of that particular character trait as I have

Precisely.
Debutantes wore frocks, and the more restricting they looked the more fashionable they were judged. And of course they were expensive.
Kicking against this exclusivity begat Punk.
So although the word has the essence of a long passed era, I persist with its use. Possibly because it is such an ugly word.

Some reports are saying his mother was a hippy who turfed him out when he was a kid
and he had to survive by himself, which is how he became mini Bear Grylls.

I'm not condoning his criminal lifestyle, I just like his idea that if you're going to go out that way, go out in style!

Really I'm just jealous because I want to fly to the Bahamas.
(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 11:58, Reply)
I ain't heard if him, but he sounds alright.

(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 12:01, Reply)
I quite like him,
theft is wrong, sure! however every now and again stories like this cheer me up as it just shows that there is still enough freedom to run amok in this world. To me that is comforting. Unless he steals from me then he's a twunt.

(, Mon 12 Jul 2010, 12:00, Reply)
yeah initially I was like "he's all benevolent and shit, like Robin Hood, giving to the animals", etc
but then I read reports that said he had a gun and stuff, which kind of sucks.
