I was just thinking today, you know, technology, what a good thing.
When I came to England I had to rely on the very expensive phone to keep in contact with friends and family. Only 5 years later I'm chatting with my sister who lives in NY using my mobile phone, for free (well, kind of, it's included in my tariff). And I just downloaded Google Sky, which is so coooool.
Which recent bits of technology you find most impressive? With which ones you couldn't live anymore? Which ones would you set on fire?
Alt Q: How are we feeling this morning? Enjoying the rain?

Skype, bbm, bionic cats. I'd set apple on fire because I have to use their computers at work.
No rain here, just sunshine and humidity.

It's all summer here in Manc, which means it's going to rain until next May, probably. Maybe it'll stop a bit in January to give space to the snow.

but I bring in my own Mac laptop, because I prefer it.
Each to his/her own.
And it's a lovely sunny day here.

also, I am sick with the lurgy that's going round. :(
Aside from that I'm pretty good.

I hate people starting a chat with me when they have nothing to say and when I have very limited time on the PC.
(, Tue 27 Jul 2010, 8:02, Reply)
I only talk to people on there if I on't have them on MSN or Gmail.

I don't mind the chat if there's something to tell me, or even if it's only to say "Hello, I'm fine, anything new? No? OK, see you soon"
But I hate the continuous "Hi, what's on? Go on, tell me something new"

Easy and clever at the same time. I think I'm getting one of those, as my headphone wires are always a mess.

And the thing I hate the most is the fact I can't do without it.

Don't you love listening to music on your CD? Or watching your friend's pictures on your laptop?
You're just in moaning mood again, aren't you?

It's like driving. I was happy not being a driver and didn't feel like I was missing out until I had to learn to drive and now I can't imagine not doing it.

And perhaps even that new-fangled fire stuff.

The record industry deserved to die for that monumental exercise in chicanery. They looked the world in the eye and told them CDs were better than records (whilst forgetting to mention that they were also infinitely cheaper for them to produce), then God sent them illegal downloads to punish them and now the cunts are fucked.
Unlucky, wankers.

and he was up to his usual tricks of starting fires every two minutes and pretending some disgusting pus-filled grub is 'actually really tasty and a great source of protein', in this one he was with some African tribe.
It struck me that these people might have had a fairly precarious existence but they were truly free. They answered to no-one and when I thought about my shitty world of debts, work and stress, for a moment I really envied them. I probably wouldn't last five minutes in the African fucking bush and the reality of the situation is I'm sure a million miles away from my little reverie but it did occur to me, seeing them in their daily lives, that with all our luxuries and technology we seem a lot less happy than them.
Then I turned off my massive telly, ran myself a nice hot bath, had a glass of clean drinking water, some gourmet food and then went to bed, safe and protected from the elements...
