I've always been very apologetic and offer to back off, but the guy has always been like "don't be daft, she's being an idiot. I'm not going to stop being friends with you cos she's in a tiz" So thankfully I've never lost any friends from it.

I generally get on well with mate's partners
but that is because when I try hard, I can be nice and funny and a bit ditzy. It's when the concentration slips that things go tits up

Not at all!
She freely admits she is predatory and I've seen photos of her in the flickr pool. So she's certainly not plain or harmless, and I doubt very much that she is dull.
