Plus I can never get comfortable sitting in a plane.It's just an annoying experience all round.

There is that.I can't sleep sitting up, so the journey is a bit uncomfortable. But that's outweighed by the positive aspect, i.e. the excitement of going away somewhere.
I'm driving this year though, so it's not an issue.
