Civ has an awful lot of reading involved if you want to,
every major discovery in human history has a massive entry on it's effects. All the wonders of the world you can build have a ton of background information in them.
I bet if you stopped thinking "this is silly" for an hour or two you'll enjoy it.
Plus you can get it for like £5 if you look around.
