not to sound like a computer scientist cliché
but... "You don't care about any data you don't have two copies of."

Seeing as your dad has access to it you pass the first test. Have some of Darth Foxtrot's gay points. Regardless of whether your stupid Apple product can be fixed, I recommend purchasing an external USB harddrive. Not expensive, easy enough for even your dad to fathom, and handy for backing up and storing locally your important files.

Best of luck.

i know this
And i-tunes keeps telling me my music is valuable, back it up blah blah. But I don't know how!!! If there is no save option like in word it is beyond me.

When you get it fixed, sync it to your computer
and that way, somewhere like the 'My Music' folder on your pc's hard drive will have a folder called i-Tunes music, and all the tunes will be in there.
Well that's what my computer did with everything I've ever used, like Frostwire, i-Tunes, etc.

I think.

You do it using a backup from the hard drive
rather than a "Save As" option from iTunes.

Just copy over your iTunes library to an external drive, then you can connect that to another computer and import it again.

Or, as bill says, get a program which allows to extract the files from the iPod directly to your own computer.

If that doesn't work, get in the car, go to your dad's and steal his computer.

Or just get a Creative.
They have a reset button that you poke with a biro, and 9 times out of ten it's job done.
If not, you plug it into a computer to which you have downloaded the recovery tool, and whether or not the buttons are working, it will do a complete Lazarus.

Yeah
but an iPod costs more, and is sexier. And rswipe's a high-roller, y'know...

They're bloody massive
I'd have willingly paid the price of an i-pod for my slim sleek Creative.

The new ones aren't that big
Especially the nanos.

My nephew's got a nano
They're still quite long

How small do you need though?
Below a certain size, they get fiddly to use, and the screen is all but useless.

I like it to fit in a little pocket or tiny bag on a night out.

(, Wed 15 Sep 2010, 8:36, Reply)
None of the pockets on any of my clothes
would be too small for an iPod nano. But then I'm a bloke, and men's clothes have proper pockets.

Which is just as well, as I end up carrying half of my girlfriend's crap around in my pockets if she doesn't have a bag with her.

And if she does have a bag, it seems to have more stuff in it that a Sherpa would need to climb Everest...

Women!

I travel light!
So hush up.
I'm more likely to be found carrying things for my boyfriend.

I hope djtp appreciates this.
