lovely stuff

I managed to avoid cooking all weekend (other than manning the bbq at my folks on saturday) but my friend cooked an incredible lump of roast pork last night, with roast spuds, sage and apple stuffing, carrot and butternut squash puree and brocolli. incredible gravy too.

I know what my favourite roast meat is. And it IS lamb.

Mmm lamb
but a really nice roast beef can never be wrong
(, Mon 20 Sep 2010, 14:07, Reply)
Don't get me wrong.
Beef, pork, chicken, game, lamb whatever.

If cooked well they are a delight.

I just favour the lamb.

Pork beats Lamb.
but for your favourite, fair enough.
(, Mon 20 Sep 2010, 14:09, Reply)
Slow roasted pork belly is damn good. Particularly with mash.

(, Mon 20 Sep 2010, 14:06, Reply)
so this

(, Mon 20 Sep 2010, 14:09, Reply)
Roast pork is a winner - I've found it quite difficult to make a gravy that goes well with pork - made a couple of cider ones that were ok not as good as I would have liked.
I did all the cooking at the weekend, did a chicken, mushroom and cider casserole on Sat.

Not many weeks left to bbq this year

getting some sage in their helps
aside from meat juices and vegetable water last night, I think the gravy had sage, white wine and chicken stock added.

was very nice indeed.
(, Mon 20 Sep 2010, 14:06, Reply)
I will try this.

(, Mon 20 Sep 2010, 14:07, Reply)
I'm a gravy fiend
I can also recommend sloe gin gravy with goose
(, Mon 20 Sep 2010, 14:14, Reply)
Oooooo. Like the sound of that. Goose is lovely.
I make a beer, thyme & honey gravy to have with pheasant which I think I am addicted to.
(, Mon 20 Sep 2010, 14:18, Reply)
that sounds good
I've only had pheasant once. I need to get some game in I think. Might check out a butchers this week.
(, Mon 20 Sep 2010, 14:30, Reply)
I was told yesterday grouse is available now, partridge in a week or so and pheasant mid October.

I will have some more money for extravagances in october.

I quite fancy trying some rabbit as well.
