You pay me to provide a service for you. There is no need for us to be friends or pals or whatever. I don't want to take you out for drinks, I don't want to send you christmas cards and no, I don't want you coming into my office stopping me work and wasting an afternoon.

people will give work to people they want to work with. you don't need to be best mates or sucking their cocks, but schmoozing is vital, sadly. but i find almost everyone is interesting company if you just find their topic.

who on paper was the best candidate I'd seen and I was pretty much going to give him a job whatever but when he came in was the dullest man in the world. After 30 minutes of trying to coax some life out of him, I mentioned that on his CV he listed 'black pudding' as a hobby. He changed in a second became so lively and passionate about black pudding.
I wish I shared your attitude but I came to the conclusion that most people are annoying a long time ago.
