people will give work to people they want to work with. you don't need to be best mates or sucking their cocks, but schmoozing is vital, sadly. but i find almost everyone is interesting company if you just find their topic.

I interviewed a guy once
who on paper was the best candidate I'd seen and I was pretty much going to give him a job whatever but when he came in was the dullest man in the world. After 30 minutes of trying to coax some life out of him, I mentioned that on his CV he listed 'black pudding' as a hobby. He changed in a second became so lively and passionate about black pudding.

I wish I shared your attitude but I came to the conclusion that most people are annoying a long time ago.
