I am not particularly superstitious but I have heard that pearls are unlucky?

There's an old saying 'pearls for tears'.
But according to other sources they symbolise purity, wisdom and true love.
I have found them to be elegant and lucky so far.
When I moved from fake ones to real ones, conicidentally or not, I got tired of superficial people and found a lot more genuine ones.
