still, sad times :(

(, Tue 19 Oct 2010, 18:09, Reply)
Very, nothing more terrifying than not being able to breathe when you're on your own :S

(, Tue 19 Oct 2010, 18:09, Reply)
yeesh, I can only imagine
I reckon I'd be telling myself I'm fine to avoid a massive hospital bill
(, Tue 19 Oct 2010, 18:10, Reply)
I was telling myself I was fine. I manned up right until I could barely breathe
Quick phone call to NHS direct to make sure I wasn't being silly, they had an ambulance with me in under 2 minutes and I was in hospital hooked up to drip shortly after :P

at least you're better now!

(, Tue 19 Oct 2010, 18:12, Reply)
I've been alright for a few months now
But I have antibiotics on standby in case it comes back again
(, Tue 19 Oct 2010, 18:15, Reply)
that's good
I've got some as well but really don't want to take them
(, Tue 19 Oct 2010, 18:35, Reply)
Do you not have insurance?
As my father is 67 and his wife has had serious health problems in the past, their insurance bill is some ridiculous number of thousand dollars a year.
(, Tue 19 Oct 2010, 18:12, Reply)
nope
I'm fucked if it's an emergency, thankfully I've not had any major problems and theres a family practice here that costs about $75 to see you, last time I went it was about $100 including tests for strep throat. Generic medicines help as well, thank fuck.

:S

(, Tue 19 Oct 2010, 18:16, Reply)
oh yeah, last year I had a chest infection and needed an $80 inhaler and two different antibiotics, added in with the doctors fee I basically spent my whole weeks paycheck
I've heard an ambulance ride is about $5,000.
Could be wrong. Hope I don't find out.
(, Tue 19 Oct 2010, 18:19, Reply)
Scary stuff.
How much would insurance be a month for you, do you think?
(, Tue 19 Oct 2010, 18:22, Reply)
when I had it through my old employer it was a couple hundred a month I think
but that was a while ago

my dad was in hospital last month, his insurance covered everything except for these shots he had to have, $1,150 for nine shots he had to pay for up front, the doctors wanted him to get more, he flat out refused
(, Tue 19 Oct 2010, 18:28, Reply)
Fucking hell.
People cry on about the NHS here but to need medical help but not be able to afford it is a horrific idea.
(, Tue 19 Oct 2010, 18:18, Reply)
I think they've got it to where you cannot be refused medical treatment if you can't afford it.
At least that's what it says in the ER waiting room.
Not sure how this helps.
(, Tue 19 Oct 2010, 18:22, Reply)
Is that an Obama-rama development?

(, Tue 19 Oct 2010, 18:23, Reply)
no, that's been in there for years

(, Tue 19 Oct 2010, 18:26, Reply)
So what is it that he was bringing in
that people got so worked up about? Please excuse my ignorance.
(, Tue 19 Oct 2010, 18:29, Reply)
don't ask me, if it's not one reason it's another
