Quite possibly. Do you feel you are somehow deficient in zinc?
Let me put it another way. if you were deficient in zinc, believe me, stretch marks would be the least of your problems. Adding more of something you aren't deficient in is not going to help. Especially in the case of zinc, whose only function in the body is as an enzymatic cofactor.

but it made me feel better for a while, it was especially useful when I was working and didn't want to feel as crappy.

And generally maintaining your immune system, so staying hydrated and eating healthily.
the rest is just psychosomatic. If booze makes you feel better, drink booze. etc.
