But Asda is much closer, thus saving petrol and making up for the loss.

Yeah, it does
But I also live in Edinburgh. The only worse place for petrol consumption is London, and even then only in places. And, frankly, I consider the fact that Asda is 5 minutes away and waitrose is at least half an hour out of the way of anywhere I ever go to be worth at least £2.
