I used to watch a programme on an obscure German satellite channel called RTL. The programme was called Space Night and basically consisted of satellite views of the earth, some of which would last up to 20 mins. The slow, trippy, drifting visuals were absolutely fucking incredible. Mandlebrot sets would appear in mountain ranges, fractals sprung out of artic ice sheets and my mind dribbled out of my ear.
Soundtracks included Steve Hillage and even Joe Meek one time. Mostly I would put my own tunes on.

I will see if I can track down a torrent later this evening. It did end up becoming a bit more 'knowing', flashier intro's, shorter sequences etc. When it was on initially, it felt a bit more sciencey, if that makes any sense.
Still brilliant though, and there should be a channel showing live earthviews, broadcasting 24 hours a day.

got in his car to drive to another location and he put a CD on and was like "what do you think of this?"
it started out sounding like some really chilled out ambient dance stuff, I was waiting for the beat to come along when he said it was a CD of bat noises....

I actually feel the same twinge of excitement I had as a kid when someone leant me a new Amiga game at school and I couldn't wait to get home.

It's not without bugs, and it can be difficult in parts, but it's awesome fun!

It was basically a series of field recording, recorded in a field by the sound of it. Pretty relaxing stuff actually, better than the advert strewn shite that it currently pumps up.
