To me the student sounds like a whiny bitch, and the dean appears to have made a snap decision and then been unwilling to back down.

The student probably shouldn't have been awarded it, but usually deans have the final say in appeals, which is the issue here.

Mind you, both the exam and coursework are odd things to have to complete for a PhD.

But the lecturer has violated student confidentiality so his suspension is defensible if harsh.
