I'd like to be a real honest to God author
but I don't really see that in my future anytime soon

Not to crush your aspirations
But I imagine the first steps of being an author involve being repeatedly turned down by publishers and made to feel generally awful.

There are self-publishing companies though; minimum quantity to print in hardback is only 100 books and you can then sell them yourself on Amazon.
Looking at doing it to boost the profile of the company.

I know. But, before I can do any of that I'd like to at least have proper training and I cannot afford school.
