That's what I said, wasn't it?Shakespeare used to do that pretty well, thinking about it.
"My dear, you seem a lady of good bearing" sounds quite polite, for example.

I always liked Chaucer's use of "queynte".....to describe a wife. (Meaning both 'quant' as in homely, and also the root of the word 'cunt')
