Contents Insurance aren't interested as we aren't claiming off them (yet)
and I don't want to claim off them as I have a 6 years no-claims bonus.

Building insurance is arrange by the freeholder who is not being remotely understanding about this (but it ain't really a building insurance issue).

yeah, but like a car insurance policy
you won't lose no claims if you make a claim that isn't your fault. It's up to your insurance company to recover the costs from the party at fault. That's what insurance is for.

Seriously, it's probably worth phoning them. they could have you in a hotel in half an hour.

I might call them again.

Ask the builders
For details of their Public Liability insurers.

It's not compulsory to have PL insurance but any firm that doesn't is a cowboy operation.

If you claim through your Contents insurer that's the first question they'll ask, because they'll be wanting their outlay back off the builders.
