FUCKING MOTHERFUCKING FUCKERS.
Building dust fiasco update: we were out of our house for 3 days. Cleaners spent a day cleaning, builders did more building, it got worse again. Got back in last night, had to stay upstairs as downstairs is all dust. Surveyor is in a stand off between contractors and freeholder, both of whom accept no blame and worse still, contractors are lying and saying they wanted to put plastic sheeting down for us but we refused. Fucking cunting liars.

Today they were working and there was fumes and dust and our smoke alarm went off and I was out on the street with the baby for 3 hours. More cleaners have just been but say it's going to get bad again as the dust settles. We have about £250 of laundry needing done (curtains, cushions, all the baby stuff that was on the landing and needs cleaning now) that the contractors and freeholder are refusing to pay for. I have a cough and feel rough. The baby is crying. It's snowing. Next stop solicitor (if we can get hold of him), then the local news.

Go to the solicitor and the news at the same time

I would
but I don't want to shoot myself in the foot and jepordise any legal advantage we might have.

If you get on Points West
Can you request that Isobel Webster interviews you? And maybe mention to her that I think she is lovely?

Seriously though, this is shit.
(, Fri 26 Nov 2010, 17:15, Reply)
I will request her specially and pass her a note to say you fancy her.

Motherfuckers
If I was down there I'd totally go round and fuck their shit right up.
(, Fri 26 Nov 2010, 17:13, Reply)
I'd totally let you
and I'm not usually a violent person.

He just wants to have sex with their poo.

(, Fri 26 Nov 2010, 17:15, Reply)
Presumably
when we're all down in a couple of weeks, you'd like us to go round and smash the shit out of their gear?
(, Fri 26 Nov 2010, 17:15, Reply)
Aye, sounds like a plan.

(, Fri 26 Nov 2010, 17:17, Reply)
I intend to 'smash the shit' out of some 'gear' tomorrow night at Murtaheid

(, Fri 26 Nov 2010, 17:14, Reply)
I am joking, that's not good.
Can you afford to stay in a hotel?
(, Fri 26 Nov 2010, 17:15, Reply)
Nope, I'm on maternity pay so money is tight
and we're forking out for a wedding in 2 weeks time and yesterday I spent £80 on cheeses for that.
(, Fri 26 Nov 2010, 17:18, Reply)
Fucking awesome cheeses though -
a whole wheel of Brie de Meaux, a whole wheel of Cashel Blue and a sixteenth of a truckle of Cheddar Gorge cheddar (cave-aged).
(, Fri 26 Nov 2010, 17:21, Reply)
I know you're having a hard time but there's no need to make fun of my age.

(, Fri 26 Nov 2010, 17:25, Reply)
Hahah

(, Fri 26 Nov 2010, 17:34, Reply)
Cor that is some ROCKING cheese.

(, Fri 26 Nov 2010, 17:34, Reply)
Nonsense, I put a motherfucking line break in there.

(, Fri 26 Nov 2010, 17:15, Reply)
watch out, chompy will tell you it's unnecessary.
Erm, will your household insurance help? I mean, it's not your fault, but like car insurance I think they can help first and make the other people pay later.
(, Fri 26 Nov 2010, 17:21, Reply)
But then the premiums will go up.

(, Fri 26 Nov 2010, 17:22, Reply)
no, because if it's not your fault it doesn't count as a claim.

(, Fri 26 Nov 2010, 17:31, Reply)
Are you sure about that?
I know some companies use the 'it's a no claim discount, not a no blame discount' argument.
(, Fri 26 Nov 2010, 17:36, Reply)
well they are fraudulent, then.
yep, I'm sure. I've been through some fairly interesting insurance claims. That's certainly how it works with car insurance companies. I can't promise for household insurance but I can't see why it would be different.
(, Fri 26 Nov 2010, 17:41, Reply)
Other than it is different.

(, Fri 26 Nov 2010, 21:58, Reply)
Contents Insurance aren't interested as we aren't claiming off them (yet)
and I don't want to claim off them as I have a 6 years no-claims bonus.

Building insurance is arrange by the freeholder who is not being remotely understanding about this (but it ain't really a building insurance issue).
(, Fri 26 Nov 2010, 17:23, Reply)
yeah, but like a car insurance policy
you won't lose no claims if you make a claim that isn't your fault. It's up to your insurance company to recover the costs from the party at fault. That's what insurance is for.

Seriously, it's probably worth phoning them. they could have you in a hotel in half an hour.
(, Fri 26 Nov 2010, 17:31, Reply)
I might call them again.

(, Fri 26 Nov 2010, 17:34, Reply)
Ask the builders
For details of their Public Liability insurers.

It's not compulsory to have PL insurance but any firm that doesn't is a cowboy operation.

If you claim through your Contents insurer that's the first question they'll ask, because they'll be wanting their outlay back off the builders.
(, Fri 26 Nov 2010, 18:45, Reply)
I really can't believe their incompetence
To cause the problem initially is poor; to knowingly continue to do, without taking steps to contain the dust is quite outrageous.

I should ask them to immediately send you a copy of the risk assessment that they should have carried out before commencing works.
(, Fri 26 Nov 2010, 17:29, Reply)
Yep, we've asked for a schedule of works. RA/EIA is a good idea too.
They really don't give a shit, the wankers. The fact that they are lying suggests they know they've fucked up. I really didn't want to escalate this. We just want expenses for laundry covered and a habitable house.
(, Fri 26 Nov 2010, 17:33, Reply)
What building company is it?

(, Fri 26 Nov 2010, 17:37, Reply)
Escalate it to fuck
You are already put out, so some persistent hounding will only result in a better outcome for you. Go to town on the feckless cunts, tell them you're under enormous stress with the baby and the wedding and anything else you care to mention.

Ramp it up into a frenzy of blame and compensation claims.
(, Fri 26 Nov 2010, 17:40, Reply)
this exactly,
All works that result in hazardous waste, such as building/science, have to submit a Risk Assessment form that states what the risks are and how they're going to manage them. Usually they have to submit them to the council too if the work is going to be major (such as what is happening where you live).
Try asking the council for them if the guilty party refuses to show you the sheet, and if they haven't actually submitted one, they'll be in more trouble still.
At least, they would be if it was in aus. But you could try it anyway!
(, Fri 26 Nov 2010, 17:33, Reply)
Refitting a shop does not fall within this category
and that's not actually the case in this country anyway.
(, Fri 26 Nov 2010, 17:52, Reply)
damn, sorry, was worth a shot.

(, Fri 26 Nov 2010, 17:58, Reply)
Get revenge on the builders
by getting a friend to rent a village hall of some sorts for the day and asking them to come and do some extensive building work on the outside. When they get started, call the police about some 'vandals' you've seen attacking the village hall.
(, Fri 26 Nov 2010, 17:30, Reply)
I love your brain.

(, Fri 26 Nov 2010, 17:34, Reply)
3/10
Get them into the village hall, then seal it and torch the motherfucker.
(, Fri 26 Nov 2010, 17:40, Reply)
Perhaps dump a load of dust in through the chimney
I've heard that Zyklon B stuff is pretty dusty.
(, Fri 26 Nov 2010, 17:44, Reply)
I'm a master of inconvenience
not an arsonist!
(, Fri 26 Nov 2010, 17:50, Reply)
You need to up your game, Nommerz

(, Fri 26 Nov 2010, 17:55, Reply)
*epic sadface*

(, Fri 26 Nov 2010, 18:19, Reply)
This is shit
and it's exactly the sort of shit they love on the BBC. Get Watchdog onto it. And the Sun. And Dear Diedre.

Seriously though, I hope you and babby are none the worse for your cunty day, and my previous offer still stands if needed. I'm in WsM - it seems you might be down my neck of the woods.
(, Fri 26 Nov 2010, 18:54, Reply)
I'll come and shout at them next week when I'm down
I'll be wearing a suit and everything.

edit: Also, that's properly shitty.
