Sometimes, just sometimes, old people say something worth listening to. Ok, so it's like picking the needle out of a whole haystack of mis-remembered war stories, but those gems should be celebrated.
Tell us something worthwhile an old-type person has told you.
Note, we're leaving the definition of old up to you, you smooth-skinned youngsters.

Whilst driving home today and daydreaming about my life, as you do. I remembered this important nugget of advice given to me....
Something or someone worth having is worth waiting for.
Very very true so take heed.
(I'm off for a run now and when I say run I use that word in the very loosest sense).

Of a woman with no ears and erect nipples playing with herself whilst stumbling down the street panting.
*sigh*

how do you tell if they're worth it if you have to wait?

you is wise.

I think people experienced in love will tell you the trick is compromise. I don't say settle for something. I say weigh up the pro's and con's. This "not the one you can live with, the one you cant live without idea" is all well and good but time's a wastin' and if you dont want to die alone etc. And besides, maybe you're not so shit hot as you think you are, anyway.
Love, baz :)

Love is NOT enough. Oh no.

if you have one but not the other, and they don't necessarily go hand in hand, the relationship is doomed.

Circumstances can fuck any relationship.
EDIT - I am not as embittered and pessimistic as I sound, honest. And if we had had marmalade as HLT suggests, maybe we would have made it through.

are what keeps us together.
*flippants*
I'm goin' 'ome now, so will leave you all to philosophise under the trees, as it were.

Love, trust, common sense and respect can be enough to keep people together whatever the circumstances.

You can have all the love and trust in the world and it still gets fucked up.

it's nice to know that I still have a bit of romance in me somewhere.
*shrug*

Love, trust, respect and common sense. And not sweating the small stuff. If you can love someone because of their faults, not in spite of them, you stand a chance.
Tolerance helps - as does alcohol!

Now, work, events - perhaps. After all many things need groundwork.
Relationships on the other hand.. Does the phrase mean 'waiting till you find someone that ticks most of your boxes' -or- 'waiting till Mrs Miggins from no53 is available?'
The former is sensible - the latter is never going to happen - go and find someone else..

Don't be impatient because you might miss out on something good.
@Gayer - your not far wrong.
( , Mon 23 Jun 2008, 18:42, closed)

aye, but lets not assume the end result you prescribed is the only possible one either.
( , Mon 23 Jun 2008, 18:43, closed)

Do you really want to live the rest of your life with someone you've just settled on.
I'm no romantic fool but I'd rather live alone and happy with the memories of past relationships I've had while trying to find the love of my life than live with someone who ticked some of the boxes. *shudders*
Edit - 'love of my life' sounds a bit Mills and Boon I know but I just mean someone to fall in love with.
