mp3 software
call this a rant, or perhaps a plea for help.

I want a piece of software that will play mp3s on my laptop.

I don't want it to connect to the internet, I don't want to play videos or games on it, I don't need it to rip/burn CDs or DVDs, I don't need online radio, I don't want it to spend 2 minutes to load up, I don't want it to find the album artwork, I don't want it to suggest other music I might like, I don't want it to display spazzy graphics in time to the music, I don't want it to save meta data about my mp3s in some spacktard "library" unconnected to the actual files, I don't need to give it a fancy "skin", I don't need it to pop up news and I don't want it to update itself every couple of weeks because of "security issues"...

I want a playlist and a play/pause button. Is that too much (or too little) to ask?

VLC media player?

Winamp.
Very easy to use, about as direct as you can get, none of the idiot fluffery that goes with iTunes.

Or Windows Media Player- I don't mind using that one either.

Winamp is horrible these days
It used to be really simple, now it's an overblown dinosaur.

I have VLC and use it for video, didn't know if it had a playlist function for mp3s...again I'll investigate.

[edit] aha, VLC is what I'm after. Perfect, thank you.

[edit][edit] I feel a bit silly now. But again, many thanks, KO.

xmplay mate
Awesome it is. You just stick in the plugings you want. XMPlay portable runs straight without an install too. I set my filetypes to go straight for it and mp3s play as soon as i double click them.

I use Winamp
Winamp 2.91 to be precise. Its tiny, and when its installing you can tell it you haven't got an internet connection and it'll never bother you again.
