I've been guilty of this...
Mainly because my PDA, whilst wonderful in almost every respect, is of such a size that it looks like I'm attempting to iron my face if I hold it in the traditional 'phone' manner.

More often, I keep the headset in my pocket, and use it as a proxy phone.

Completely agree!
When I see some twunt in a supermarket or on the main street yapping away to themselves, I always make a point of saying "What? Are you talking to me? Oh sorry mate!" To try and burst their stupidity bubble and make them realise that outside of the car, these things are just plain ridiculous unless you're disabled etc.
