This is a question Political Correctness Gone Mad

Freddy Woo writes: "I once worked on an animation to help highlight the issues homeless people face in winter. The client was happy with the work, then a note came back that the ethnic mix of the characters were wrong. These were cartoon characters. They weren't meant to be ethnically anything, but we were forced to make one of them brown, at the cost of about 10k to the charity. This is how your donations are spent. Wisely as you can see."

How has PC affected you? (Please add your own tales - not five-year-old news stories cut-and-pasted from other websites)

last christmas
we were on a cruise in the caribbean. most of the people on board were merkins, and a fair few of them were jewish. not being religious or a family to notice anyone's religion, we only realised this when we overheard the merkins on the table next to us bollocking the sweet little filippino waitress for daring to wish them a merry christmas on christmas morning.

"that is offensive to most of the people in this room. do you think you can learn how to say 'happy holidays' in english?"

my brothers were restrained with difficulty from bashing them. instead, much to my embarrassment, my younger brother said loudly to my older brother, 'hey jay, can you learn to say "patronising racist twat"'?

they were twats, though. overly made up bejewelled big haired gold shoe wearing shoulder padded twats. and that was just the men!

Happy holidays...
I really bloody object to that phrase! Grrrr. As does my Jewish friend, who happens to be Merkin - as you can probably imagine, a (large) Merkin Jew living in a fairly insular north east backwater former mining town is a recipe for some distictly hostile behaviour from the local chavs (or charvas as they are known here ). She celebrates Christmas as much as she celebrates Hannukah or any other Jewish festival. Christ, you should see her at the pantomime...

Good grief, if you can't celebrate a recognised festival within a recognised cultural context for fear of offending a minority, what hope is there?

What Frank said..
With the addition that my sister-in-law is a Merkin.

... and They now have a kid... a wee Anglo-Merkin. =)

Grr
If they want to celebrate one of our religious festivals, use it as an excuse to have time off work, get presents, eat nice food and get wankered and generally live it up, then they can fucking well not complain when someone points out the REASON they get all these perks. Or fuck off back to work on Dec 25th.

Pfffft.
