This is a question Professions I Hate

Broken Arrow says: Bankers, recruitment consultants, politicians. What professions do you hate and why?

I really want to like Job Centre staff...
...but their sneering apathy and suspicious outlook makes it nigh on impossible.

Some aren't too bad,
and most are tied by the system and can't do anything useful. They have 'decision makers' for fork's sake. People who are employed to make decisions. Pity the poor fools who aren't allowed to make decisions...

That said, I do agree with you. It's hard to go in there when you have to prove that you're not out to scam the system every time you want someone on your side.

In my limited experience
most of the ones I dealt with were cunts who went out of their way to be cunts. A couple of them where OK, must have been new to the job or something.

To be fair
a lot of the people they deal with are cunts. Lazy cunts who don't want a job because it will involve work, and are only there to fill in the forms so they don't lose their "jobseeker's" allowance.

Most of the ones I had the joy of dealing with
were confused by the fact that I actually wanted work, rather than just turning up perfunctorily to continue claiming my jobseekers allowance. Although, to be fair, I could see why they had that attitude when I saw some of their other 'clients' turn up.

I was unemployed for the last half of last year
And while I expected the worst, the Job Centre staff were helpful, friendly and generally pretty useful- as well as giving me a 6 month period to just look for "proper" (engineering) work rather than just trying to lump me with the first job that came up. Though that option would also have been open to me if I'd needed it. Then I went on a training course, and then I was back to being a full-time Jobseeker (currently got a kickass job, though, so all's well!)

I saw them being just as nice to the others who made the effort to make their claim sound genuine. The Chavscum who tried to fuck them over got harsher treatment- I even heard someone getting their benefits stopped for being aggressive and not bothering to look for a job. Seemed a fair enough system- play by the rules and get cash, don't and you don't.

So hooray for the staff of Aberdeen's Chapel Street Job Center.

I had just one like that, for 20 minutes, and I'll hate her all my life.
I needed a grant to pay for a CRB check for a job and she rang the place I was applying to, in front of me, to ascertain whether I was indeed fraudulently claiming about £36.

She refused to use the number I gave her for the company and looked it up on the 'net instead, and glared at me when they didn't answer, saying 'There's no-one there, is there? Why might that be?'

How the feck would I know, as I didn't even work there yet?

Totally humiliating and infuriating. Took all my self-control to sit there meekly instead of attacking the bitch. If I heard that anyone ever did smack her one, I'd buy them a pint.
