Crappy relationships
"Recently," Broken Arrow tells us, "The missus informed me that her brother was moving with us." What has your partner done that's convinced you the magic's gone? "Breathe" is not an answer.

A feminist issue....
We hadn't been getting on at all well for several weeks. As a private joke to myself I had a selective ringtone on my nokia that made a pathetic kind of whining sound whenever she called. Yes, childish.
She found out, went mental and I promised to change it. Except I didn't. Not nice, but it certainly brought some deep issues to the surface. We were both at a friends party and for some reason she rang me. Cue whining ringtone, and ultimately, public recriminations.
When we got back home from the party she said it was a feminist issue (perhaps it is?). Then went absolutely berserk and stated that my ringtone was reinforcing the gender stereotype of the whining girlfriend. Then tried to punch me in the face.
She didn't even see the irony.

There was no irony.
Because you are personally responsible for 40,000 years of male oppression, if you don't satisfy her she has every right to hit you as much as she likes.

Really?
I thought whining about something that you also said reinforced a stereotype of someone whining was pretty ironic. You are a little prejudicial in my opinion, not to mention rude.
I would have pissed her off eventually no matter what I did and since you weren't there and didn't know her you are in a poor position to judge how much of a dick I was. In any case I hardly deserved a punch in the face, and it wasn't the first time either.

I think this raises a number of issues
the public humiliation of her- don't tell me that when the phone rang when you were with your mates you didn't make a show of it.
But saddest is the need to phone each other when you were in the same building, and the ringee could even hear the ringtone, you were that close.
Nothing to do with feminism, just lack of respect and laziness on both parts.

At least they weren't texting each other in the same room
That really would take the piss

Well there was a basic lack of respect on both parts true.
but without a richer context you can't begin to appreciate the reasons. I've been honest with the situation as I saw it - my own faults included which I could have simply not mentioned. You've also assumed she or I wasn't still at the pub which I neglected to mention for brevity. Please feel free to assume any facts not mentioned are exactly as you say.
