sorry but i don't get it
One day Mr Cohen is selling 500 grams of mince for 3 quid then the next he offers 800 grams for 5 pence less. I am obviously missing something but its late and i am not hungry so the mince isn't keeping my attention

It happens.
2x500g of rolled oats was cheaper than 1x1kg for quite some time, and it crops up elsewhere, too. Very odd.

Maybe it's because the more expensive one
is closer to its use-by date. Only by a day, but maybe they have a policy that it gets discounted at a certain point.

oh they do discount when it's close to its use-by date
but usually with a second larger barcode in yellow hat covers the original one.
