I would say something amusing/joke.
No one laughs.
Popular knobber/waste of oxygen says same amusing thing/joke.
Everyone laughs.

It happens to this day.
Maybe noone likes me. Or I don't speak loud enough.

i used to tell my jokes to a friend who was sitting next to me, they'd laugh and then tell the rest of the class my joke, i quickly learnt to shout out more in class

I pointed out to someone after they'd poured scorn on my quip, that if they or soandso the popular person had said it, that it would be funny.
This was when I was still lumped in with all the dickheads etc (ie pre year 9 "those that actually want to be at school" breakout)
