I asked about that once
The g/f had just bought some biking kit. What you want is abrasion resistance, armour, weatherproofing, pockets etc. The road really doesn't give two craps what you look like.

I have more pockets than I know what do to with, she has about one and a half. I asked the salesman why.

He said "Women don't like pockets because it makes them look fat, that's also why women don't get hip armour. Makes them look fat, see?"

So there you go. You don't get pockets because you'll look fat. And when you break your pelvis or smash a hip if an off, at least you won't look fat either.

We bought some hill-walking gear a few weeks later. Same bloody story...think I'll change my name to "Sherpa"

Grrr If look fat it's because I've eaten too much cake... pockets are not the bloody cause...why should I have to carry a bag for keys/purse/phone when pockets would do? Because some stupid designer thinks we are all imbecile fashion victims obsessed with our weight.
I have also been looking to buy new bike gear recently and apart from the sad lack of choice (and pockets) I also noted that it's assumed we only want nice pastel shades of blue and pink! Oh well oversized mens trousers with a belt it will be then.
