a patientof mine had to have a full bowel resection because they had tried the whole hamster in a tube thing and it had crawled up their arse and it to his bowels. The hamster then died and rotted and killed off most of his bowel. True story.

Now this is the thing, I can imagine it has actually happened,but only because some idiot thought the myth was true and tried it, BUT, A) They must have a REALLY loose nipsy, and B) What else would it do up there except rip the guts apart with teeth and claws and then die? Therefore C) It's still a myth as it has never been a 'practice'.
