I bought a pulled pork wrap & a flat white from Costa yesterday
It came to £6.25, so I gave the girl a £10 note.
She gave me £6.25 change and I SAID NOTHING.

I hear you, brother.
I bought some groceries from an attractive cashier the day before yesterday that came to €8.80, and she gave me €2.20 in change. Didn't say a word.

Perhaps she thought you looked like that rare thing - a decent, honest guy - and was trying you out, and was going to give you her phone number in the ensuing conversation.
You certainly fucked THAT up.

Er, no.
Same animal... but it really was nothing like ham. You know, in the same way that, for instance, a pork chop is nothing like ham.
EDIT: You're pretty much bang on regarding the coffee though
