also works if...a male character in the ad has an earring and you can flip the film to appeal to the gay market.

Doesn't the "gay ear" vary by country too? Though, personally, I find it's the type of earring, diamond earing[s] on a guy for example, that screams "Gay!" rather than the ear or location therein.
