Ride on the pavement.
It's a lot safer, as pedestrians will generally be too frightened to confront you and will get out of your way.

Fiesta drivers in same city - beeping and revving to get round four unrelated cyclists on Whitworth Street will in no way make you look a tit when said cyclists catch up at the next set of lights and all simultaneously give you the finger.
