Want to promote integration of immigrants?
Force them to carry around an ID card while spouting off on how they are equal and should integrate and assimilate.
Oh, and do it for *some* classes of non-nationals only.

Agreed - another thing
which annoys me is the stupid "knowledge of life in the UK" test which you now have to pass not just if applying for citizenship but for permanant leave to remain in the UK. Nothing wrong with having a good knowledge of the country you are living in, but FFS no one resident in the UK from birth has to *prove* they have that knowledge in order to retain citizenship and a right to reside. I am a UK resident from birth and consider myself to have a good knowledge of the relevant aspects of life in the UK, yet when I tried out a couple of sample tests using the CD-ROM my wife has bought to practice for her test I only managed to score about 65% - the pass mark is 75%. There are some stupid questions - e.g. what is the website to look at if wantign to do voluntary work. Why does anyone need to know this when they can google it *if required*?
