Parents with troublesome children at supermarketsFind another parent with an unruly child and swap children while shopping. The child will feel less at ease with a strange parent and will quieten down, making the supermarket trip more pleasurable for the parents and the other shoppers.

Actuallythis might work if you have trustworthy friends / co-workers. And if you've got a good few of them, they can cycle round so your kid never gets adjusted to them. If they start to, get them to wear a moustache and effect a german accent.
